Friday December 17th is Maple Syrup Day 2021! Today is a great day to celebrate this delicious and important food staple. The origins of maple syrup production can be traced back thousands of years in the northeastern region of the United States. The indigenous peoples of North America first collected, processed, and used maple syrup. When Europeans arrived, they adopted the practice and gradually refined the production methods.
Maple products contain unique antioxidants that are anti-inflammatory and can help control blood sugar, prevent and fight cancer, and help prevent cardiovascular diseases. While Canada currently produces the most maple syrup in the world, the United States led in maple syrup production until the 1930s. Vermont holds the current title for highest production in the United States, but right here in the Mohawk Valley, the maple syrup industry is thriving. As Tibbitts Maple enters its 5th generation of production, we are proud to teach the next generation the tradition and techniques developed and mastered by our forefathers. We offer a variety of maple products which are available at our Tibbitts Bros Farm Stand located at 8874 Tibbitts Road in New Hartford. |
